Robert Hosking

Robert has extensive family law experience in both mediation and litigation. Robert aims to provide a superior standard of legal services by listening to your needs and then providing sound and realistic advice, as well as representation in court. Robert is well known for his formidable advocacy skills. He has been practising as a litigation lawyer since 2005.

Robert has previously worked as a Victims Compensation Assessor and a solicitor for Family and Community Services. Robert opened Hosking & Gosling Legal in 2008 and practices predominantly in the areas of Children’s Law and Family Law.

Robert is a member of various panels for Family Law and Care and Protection. He also acts as an Independent Children’s Lawyer in Care and Protection matters. Robert is also appointed to the external panel of legal practitioners who act for Family and Community Services in Care and Protection Proceedings.

Robert is the only Illawarra lawyer on the legal panel for the Association of Childrens Welfare Agencies (ACWA).

Robert has presented a number of professional papers on Children’s Law issues on topics such as presentation of video surveillance evidence, procedural law, Aboriginal children placement law and Supreme Court applications. Robert has been published in the ‘Children’s Law News.’

Broadie Gosling

Broadie has over five years’ experience instructing counsel in complex parenting and property matters and at Final Hearings. Through this work Broadie has gained invaluable experience in collating evidence, drafting court documents, preparing briefs of evidence, and managing witnesses including expert witnesses. Since her admission to both the Supreme Court of NSW and High Court of Australia Broadie has applied these skills in practice regularly appearing before both the Federal Circuit Court and Family Court of Australia.

Broadie has appeared in a number of complex parenting matter where serious allegations of child abuse are at play including appearances in the Magellan List of the Family Court. Broadie has successfully advocated for parents in airport watch list, change of name, passport, recovery, relocation and same sex parenting applications and has been successful at both interim and final hearings with respect to contested parenting applications dealing with issues of parental responsibility, live with and spend time with arrangements including no time and supervised time cases. Broadie also has extensive experience in representation and advising in relation to complex property settlements.

Outside of Court Broadie has a passion for assisting parties to resolve their matters amicably and in a cost effective and timely manner. Broadie frequently appears at both Family Dispute Resolution and Conciliation Conferences assisting parties to reach agreements and is experienced in drafting legal documents that accurately reflect the agreement reached and provide certainty and security for separating couples.

As a result of Broadie’s passion for alternate dispute resolution Broadie has furthered her studies and completed her collaborative family law training in 2018. Broadie has since enrolled in and is currently completing her Graduate Diploma in Family Dispute Resolution Practice and it is anticipated that Broadie’s service menu will expand to see FDRP services offered by Hosking & Gosling Legal in the near future.

Broadie understands the interplay between the family law jurisdiction with the care and protection and criminal law jurisdiction and frequently provides advice to clients with respect to these issues. Broadie appears on a regular basis in the Children’s Court of NSW and the Local Court of NSW and is able to assist our clients with a range of matters.

Dr Fabienne Else

Dr Fabienne Else was admitted as a solicitor in the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 2020 and joined Hosking & Gosling Legal shortly after. Since joining the firm, she has worked primarily in the area of victim’s compensation, identifying and making claims for children in the foster care system. Fabienne is passionate about this area of work and has been utilising her research and policy skills to push for changes within this system that would provide greater levels of support and compensation for children who have been significantly abused.

Fabienne is a highly qualified post-doctoral researcher who has worked on numerous international and government-funded projects. Her research skills are utilised at Hosking & Gosling Legal to provide expert research support to the solicitor team for complex matters.

Fabienne holds a PhD in Law (with Examiner’s Commendation), as well as a Bachelors of Laws and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wollongong. She also holds a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Australian National University.

Prior to coming to Hosking & Gosling Legal, Fabienne completed a PhD focussed on the impact of Intensive Correction Orders (a form of criminal sentence) on Indigenous offenders in NSW.   Her thesis, entitled ““Set-up to fail”: Indigenous experiences of Intensive Correction Orders in New South Wales” is available online. Outside of her work at Hosking & Gosling Legal, Fabienne is a casual academic at the University of Wollongong where she teaches in the Criminology department and works on a variety of large ARC-funded law projects.

Ellen Collins


Ellen is one of our solicitors practicing in family law and care and protection, taking on both private and legal aid clients. Her employment with Hosking & Gosling Legal began in 2019, where she was hired as a Paralegal during her studies. She has since obtained her Bachelor of Law from the University of Wollongong in 2021 and went on to complete her Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice through the College of Law in early 2022. Ellen was admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in May 2022 and in July 2022, she was admitted to the High Court of Australia.

Her extensive employment with Hosking & Gosling Legal has provided Ellen with unique knowledge and exposure to this area of practice long before her admission. Furthermore, she has had the opportunity to learn under both of our principal solicitors, Robert and Broadie. Ellen is a dedicated solicitor who is passionate about delivering high quality legal services to all of her clients. She takes the time to understand each individual circumstance and advocates for her clients’ best interests. Ellen has time and time again been commended on her personalised and wholistic client care. During her time as a practicing solicitor, Ellen has become proficient in both mediation and litigation and has appeared in matters in the Evatt list.  She has successfully been involved in both interim and final hearings, dealing with matters of uncontested and contested parenting applications. Ellen has experience in cases of parental responsibility, live in and spend time with arrangements in no time and supervised time cases. Further, Ellen is also well versed in non-litigated pathways, appearing for parties at Family Dispute Resolution and Conciliation Conferences.
